9. Attack and capture of Grand Faudé

The 59th and 60th Goums, 2nd Group of Moroccan Tabors, engaged since 8 December 1944 in the attack on Grand Faudé were decimated.
The tower of Faudé was destroyed German bombardment on 11 December.
The Goumiers were relieved on 13 December by 3rd Battalion, 4th Regiment of Tunisian Tirailleurs.
On 15 December 1944, Grand Faudé and the strategically important Bermont Pass were captured by the III/4th RTT, supported by 3rd Squadron, 1st Cuirassiers Regiment and elements of the 11th African Chasseurs Regiment, thus opening the way to the liberation of the village of Orbey.
The taking of Grand Faudé and the Bermont Pass was only possible at the cost of 50 dead and 130 wounded.
This tree was planted to commemorate the liberators by the members of the children’s municipal council on the occasion of the 80th anniversary.
