7. Market Place
15 December 1944

On the night of 15 December 1944, elements of the 4th Regiment of Tunisian Tirailleurs and 1st Cuirassiers Regiment, supported by Tank Destroyers from 11th African Chasseurs Regiment, regrouped around the Market Place, readied themselves and prepared to liberate the village.

At 7 a.m. on 16 December, the units launched the attack:

11th Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th RTT and an armoured detachment moved towards the centre of the village; 9th Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th RTT and half an armoured detachment from 1st CR set off in the direction of Faing.

Captain DÉTROYAT was killed by a sniper on 16 December at the onset of the attack on Faing.
